The history of ASICS Rainbows Volleyball Club...
Dave Shoji, with the help of Howard Wallace, founded Rainbows Volleyball Club in 1985. The club was established to provide Hawaii's youth a place to learn a high level of competitive volleyball. Shortly after its establishment, ASICS Tiger Corp., manufacturer of athletic shoes, clothing and accessories, became a corporate sponsor and the club was then renamed to ASICS Rainbows Volleyball Club. Former coaches and players of Rainbows Volleyball Club is a who's who of volleyball.
Former coaches include Dave Shoji (Hawaii), Howard Wallace (Hawaii and Creighton University), Charlie Wade (Hawaii) Kari Anderson (Hawaii), Dietre Collins (Women's national team), Keri Majors (U of Penn), Angelica Lundquist (professional player), and Tania Fuumatu (Chaminade University/professional beach player).
Former ASICS Rainbows include Sarah Clark (Stanford), Debbie Lambert (Stanford), Fiona Nepo (Nebraska), Lily Kahumoku (Hawaii), Nohea Tano (Hawaii), Margaret Vakasausau (Hawaii), Casey Castillo (Rutgers University), Kea Kimbal (LMU), Roselyn Dang/Robin Kurusaki (Saint Johns University), and many others.
Asics Rainbows Volleyball Club is also proud of carrying a high level boys volleyball program which is now it its fourth year. Throughout the years, we have been fortunate enough to have a very talented cast of boys from all over the state. Standouts include current players , Charles Bell (All State Honorable Mention/OIA First Team Selection/All American), Greg Baxter (All American), and Nick Castello (All American).
Former players include Va'afuti Tavana (KIF Player of the Year/All American/BYU), Riley Tang (All American), Ainoa Miyashiro (All American), Adam Tuifagu (All American), Corey Spence (All State Selection), Todd Blankenship, Jonathan Grobe (All ILH/All State selection/Fab 50 selection/Pepperdine University), Kana Bento (BIF player of the year/All State), Dionisio Dante (MIL Player of the Year/All State Selection/Hawaii), Eric Kalima (Hawaii), and Matt Biniski (ILH First Team selection). We are so very proud of all of our players and wish them well in their college careers!
Mission of the ARVC
ARVC is to provide Hawaii's youth with a range of opportunities to participate and compete on a select volleyball team, within a competitive atmosphere. ARVC athletes will learn to successfully progress as individuals and as team members, forming lasting bonds by interacting with people from different cultures, ethnic backgrounds and communities.
Vision of the ARVC
ARVC's vision is to provide athletes with personal growth experiences, through opportunities for leadership, perseverance, determination, competitive spirit and volition. ARVC will prepare athletes for high-level competition, and for conceivably receiving future volleyball scholarships at the collegiate level.
